Jay Woods, LMSW
Licensed Master Social Worker
Hello, I’m Jay (she/they), a Licensed Master Social Worker and Supervisee in Social Work. I am registered to provide psychotherapy in Virginia and work under the clinical supervision of Brittany Vera, LCSW. I work with adult and adolescent clients, and I am devoted to providing affirming care to individuals with LGBTQ+ identities.
Our reasons for seeking therapy are as unique as our life stories themselves. You might be struggling with unrelenting worry and anxiety, persistent feelings of sadness and depression, or a deep-rooted sense of emptiness. You may be facing echoes of past painful experiences, navigating major life transitions, or struggling with relationships. You may feel stuck in patterns that you can’t seem to break, or you may have a nagging feeling that something isn’t right. Maybe you wonder if you’ve experienced trauma, but you’re just not sure and want a place to explore your thoughts.
Regardless of your experiences, I’m here to offer a safe, non-judgmental space where we can begin to journey together towards your healing and growth. With trust as our foundation, our work adopts a psychodynamic, trauma-informed approach to therapy. That means our work will invite you to explore how your past experiences and relationships shape your current feelings, behaviors, and interactions. We will identify and understand patterns in your life, creating links between your past and present, which can lead to deeper self-understanding and facilitate change. Acknowledging the presence and impact of trauma in your life, our work will proceed at a pace that is right for you, promoting empowerment, fostering safety, and assisting you in integrating and making meaning of your life experiences.
Initiating therapy is an act of courage, and I honor your strength in taking this step. I welcome the opportunity to discuss working together and answer any questions you may have during a free 15-minute phone consultation. To start our conversation, feel free to contact me by email or phone; I make it a priority to respond to inquiries within 24 hours.
