Brittany Vera, LCSW
Licensed Clinical Social Worker
I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker with diverse skills, and a particular passion for working with individuals who have experienced significant damage within their relationships, whether as children or adults. I started my career in a local Juvenile and Domestic Relations Court Services Unit in 2010 where I served families in crisis. In this position I managed a supervised visitation and exchange program until 2017. During that time, I earned my Masters’ in Clinical Social Work from George Mason University, where I completed clinical practicums with Fairfax County Child Protective Services and The Women’s Center in Vienna, Virginia. It was in these placements and through my work with the courts that I discovered the incredible resiliency of people enduring extraordinarily difficult situations. Upon my graduation in 2015, I completed my residency for licensure through my work in the supervised visitation program and at The Women’s Center, a nonprofit mental health center.
My approach to therapy is compassionate, collaborative, nonjudgmental, and above all, strives to create a sense of emotional safety within therapy. I recognize that each person, their life experiences, and the way they tell their story is unique, and therefore, therapy cannot be a one-size-fits-all approach. I work with each client to understand their unique circumstances, how their past expresses itself in present relationships, and how they want to create different ways of being in the world. I recognize the importance of therapy feeling like a good “fit” for the client so maximum growth and healing can occur. I am a firm believer that the client is in the driver’s seat, able to apply the gas and brakes as needed, while the therapist acts as a helpful and experienced navigator along the journey.
In my down time I enjoy spending time with family and friends, riding horses, practicing yoga, exploring the outdoors, and cheering on my favorite baseball team - Go Nats!
